On 5 November 2025, a blood donation session was held, attended by military personnel and civilians from the Azores Air Zone Command (CZAA) and Air Base No. 4 (BA4) in Lajes, on Terceira Island.

The initiative, attended by Brigadier-General Francisco Dionísio, the newly appointed Commander of the CZAA, was part of the regular activities of the CZAA and BA4 Voluntary Blood Donors Group, created in 2023, which already has more than a hundred participants.

As a result of the regular donations promoted by this group, Terceira Island has achieved unprecedented autonomy in terms of blood reserves, significantly reducing the need for support from other blood banks in the archipelago's islands.

During the visit, the CZAA and BA4 Voluntary Blood Donors Group and Brigadier-General Francisco Dionísio were welcomed by the Head of the Immunohemotherapy Service at the Santo Espírito Hospital on Terceira Island, Francelina Peixoto, the President of the Board of the Terceira Island Blood Donors Association, Angela Jorge, and the Secretary of the Board of the Terceira Island Blood Donors Association, Cristina Machado, who publicly expressed their appreciation for the constant and essential contribution of the military and civilians involved.

“A generosidade dos dadores militares e civis do CZAA e da BA4 tem sido fundamental para garantir a segurança transfusional e permitindo a autossuficiência da Ilha Terceira”, destacaram as representantes do Hospital de Santo Espírito da Ilha Terceira, sublinhando a importância da continuidade destas iniciativas.

A ação ficou marcada por um ambiente de solidariedade e espírito de missão, demonstrando o papel ativo da Força Aérea não apenas na defesa do país, mas também na promoção da saúde pública e no apoio à comunidade açoriana, reforçando os valores de solidariedade e cidadania que caracterizam o seu desempenho diário.
