Air Force rescues sailing boat crew member

Today, 14 November, the Air Force was involved in the rescue of a person who was on board a sailing boat more than 110 km from the island of Porto Santo, in the Madeira Archipelago.

During the morning, the Air Force's Search and Rescue Coordination Centre in Lisbon received an alert about a sailboat with seven people on board, whose main sail was completely torn.

The remaining crew members chose to remain on the sailboat, waiting for assistance to tow the boat to shore.

A crew from the EH-101 Merlin helicopter, from Squadron 751 - ‘Pumas’, permanently stationed at Aerodrome No. 3, Porto Santo, was assigned to carry out the mission.
