At the end of yesterday, 23 November, Squadron 752 – “Fénix” was activated to rescue a 27-year-old man who was aboard a cargo ship nicknamed “BORDEAUX”.
The EH-101 Merlin helicopter took off from Air Base No. 4 (BA4) at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, heading for the area of operations to rescue the young man, 270 kilometres from Lajes.
After arriving at the area of operations at 9:45 p.m., it picked up the patient and returned to BA4, where it landed at 11:10 p.m. After the rescue, the young man was taken to the Santo Espírito Hospital on Terceira Island to receive the necessary medical care.
The Lajes Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Lajes) conducted the air operations after the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre requested the deployment of resources.
Another life saved and another mission accomplished, with the EH-101 Merlin helicopter flying for 2 hours and 50 minutes during this operation.
