This weekend, the Air Force received a portable weather station at Air Base No. 5, provided by Ämari Air Base in Estonia, in a gesture that strengthens bilateral cooperation between allied nations.
The request made by the Air Force was promptly accepted by Estonian Air Force, which deployed two military personnel to install the weather station at BA5, thereby ensuring the necessary conditions to support air operations.
This support comes at a particularly significant time, given that, from 1 April, the Air Force will deploy up to 95 military personnel and four F-16M aircraft to Ämari Air Base in Estonia as part of the Enhanced Air Policing 2026 mission.
This will be the Air Force’s ninth participation in the Baltic air policing mission, within the framework of NATO’s collective security and defence measures, demonstrating Portugal’s ongoing commitment to the protection of allied airspace.
Estonia’s provision of this capability is further proof of the strength of cooperation between allies, based on mutual trust and mutual assistance in pursuit of a common goal."
