RTHB24: MEDEVEC mission tests joint and combined capabbilities

Last Friday at RealThaw & HotBlade 2024, we experienced a mission of Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) and to achieve success, different teams had to work together.

In a context where several people were injured, the Romanian Air Force C-27J aircraft was activated to evacuate civilians and wounded people from the scene. Fighter planes followed to accompany the flight and ensure that the enemy forces didn’t prevent the arrival at the scene.

Inside the C-27J aircraft, in addition to the MEDEVAC team, there was a team from the Portuguese Air Force’s Tactical Projection Operations Unit (NOTP), responsible for supporting the ground forces of the aircraft, including during the return flight when three civilians reported more hostile behavior.

In the end, the mission was successfully accomplished, with the safe return of everyone to the Air Base N.º 11, in Beja.

This was another mission within the framework of the multinacional exercises RealThaw & HotBlade 2024, which aim to increase the interoperability of operations, preparing them for the current theaters of conflict and humanitarian support missions.
