RTHB24: Helo cast put into pratice

During the multinational exercises, a Helo Cast was executed. This is a technique for inserting and extracting troops in difficult-to-access locations, allowing troops to get closer to targets, and is used by small units and special operations forces.

Depending on the mission scenario and the air force involved, this technique may include the launch of an inflatable boat, which may be empty, half full or completely full.

The EH-101 Merlin and AW119 Koala helicopters were involved in the helocasting, which brought combat divers from the Portuguese navy into the field.

The Air Force's TACP (Tactital Air Control Party) also participated in the mission, which were on the ground providing support with the aim of guiding the aircraft to the already planned targets.

This is one of several scenarios trained in RealThaw and HotBlade 2024 which, remember, will take place until the 5th of June from Air Base No. 11, in Beja.
