Postgraduate Degree in Flight Safety

On 3, 4 and 5 December, the Air Force Headquarters in Alfragide hosted a series of lectures for the first edition of the Postgraduate Course in Flight Safety - Accident Prevention and Investigation. This series, open to the public, marks the end of the prevention component of this Postgraduate Course, which will be followed by the accident investigation part.

Over the course of these three days, the challenges of search and rescue missions, accident investigation, forensic psychiatry and practical cases, among other topics, were addressed.

The aim of this course was to provide trainees with adequate training in the area of Flight Safety, equipping them with the necessary skills to perform a wide range of functions within the Aircraft Accident Prevention and Investigation structure.

Organised and coordinated by the Air Force Inspectorate General (IGFA), in conjunction with the Air Force Academy, the 2025 edition was attended by 29 trainees: 23 Air Force personnel, one Navy personnel and five civilians from different national institutions.

The IGFA is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling inspection and audit activities in the Air Force, as well as conducting, , in accordance with the standards appropriate to its level, the studies, analyses, inspections and audits necessary to assess compliance with the laws and regulations in force, as well as the effectiveness, relevance and efficiency of the Air Force's actions in all its activities.
